Upgrade Proposal: New Magic

MaxSalsa | Sora Myoudouin | Project PreDestiny: The Rainbow Jewel of Hope | New Abilities

I have a few new on-foot talents I want to propose; I was going to do it sooner but... yeah. Sora's been working these out in posts, so if they sound vaguely familiar, that's why. Sorry I didn't do this first; I'm going to, uh... not do that in the future.

Sora's on-foot abilities depend on the Soul Perfume, her magical power source; it's the device that manifests POTPOURRI and grants her hardlight suit for combat. While holding it, she can channel a notable amount of her power even while not transformed; without it, she's almost entirely mundane, although not totally helpless.

Upgrades to Itsuki Aegis: Concept first appeared here. Sora knows her shields are her main form of combat in or out of her unit, so she naturally spends a lot of time figuring out how to make them more useful. This resulted in one major breakthrough, and it ironically came from a combination of boredom and something she heard years ago. Some of her classmates had found old Dungeons & Dragons books, and had discovered an alternate use for a spell that created a disk of energy, using it instead as a surface to ride on to carry their characters over harsh terrain. The realization that the inside of an Itsuki Aegis was just a Tenser's Floating Disk gave her pause, and then she set about seeing if it worked; the magical theory is there, but theory doesn't mean much when you're going to be falling hundreds of feet to your death if you're wrong.

This upgrade allows Sora to ride on the inside of an Itsuki Aegis turned parallel to the ground. It goes fairly fast, but it's hard to control, and it takes a noticeable of energy to use a shield this way. The underside is still reflective to protect her. If something breaks a shield she's riding in, she'll take any remaining damage from the attack, and she won't be able to form another for a little bit, meaning she'll fall. Sora doesn't have the focus to make another shield while she's riding one. There's enough space on a shield for her and maybe another person, or her and some cargo. Too much weight, and the shield dumps her and whatever else she's carrying. If she's standing on a shield, Sora can hop and stomp on it to create the force for Itsuki Aegis Impact, sending the shield flying in a given direction; she'll need something else to save her from falling, or else she'll have to wait until the first shield is consumed by the impact to make another. An Aegis won't hold Desu Itsuki, so she'll have to come up with something else to make it fly.

Adaptability changes (while mundane):
Air: - -> D
Adaptability changes (in hardlight suit):
Air: - -> C

Air Step: During the initial battle against the Inspectors, out of the corner of her eye, Sora noticed Jeremy making a series of barriers to escape being surrounded by jumping off of aerial platforms. She's been working on a set of her own ever since, and she thinks she has a prototype. The end result is effectively the ability to make magical handholds on demand. She's working on making it scale up to Desu Itsuki, but for now she's having enough problems making it work for herself. Now she just needs to show Jeremy and see if he approves of the idea. Not that she needs his approval or anything...!

Air Step is a spell that charges the user's hands with potential energy. Once charged up, a gesture and a thought create a very small grooved shield relatively nearby. The grooves make the shields easier to get a grip on. They're designed to be used as handholds, footholds, tiny platforms... whatever. Sora will typically use them for reaching places she can't get to normally when she doesn't want to put more effort (and mana) into climbing. The mana cost is much lower than her other movement options (transforming for better jump height, or using an Aegis) and it's also much quieter and less glowy, meaning it could have applications for stealth. Sora can't throw the platforms out at will; she needs to prepare first, though that takes much less time when she's in her hardlight suit. Once prepared, individual shields come out very quickly, and she can continue to make more until she dismisses the ability (or loses consciousness). The tradeoff for the shields being very quick to manifest is their small size and very poor survivability; most attacks will break one, and if Sora's using one at the time, she falls. They won't tolerate a lot of weight, either; they're not powered-armor grade, let alone Mobile Suit grade. She's working on that, but it'll take a while.

Adaptability changes (while mundane or in her hardlight suit):
Air: - -> D

Healing magic: Sora is tired of seeing people die. For some time now she's been searching for something she can do, but she's not having much luck. The only thing she's come up with is throwing all her power at someone who's dying, and hoping for the best. Anything can happen if you believe, right? It did work once... while she was panicking... and not distracted by other things... and at full magical capacity...

More a manifestation of power than a true spell, Sora dumps all the mana she can channel into the target, all thought cleared from her mind except "please let this person live". Eats a huge amount of magical energy and is not in any way subtle. Success and effectiveness are CR-dependent and also depend on Sora's mental state; if she's not confident it'll work, or she has no connection to the target, the effect will be minimal, if any. Stabilizes the target and heals a small percentage of missing health. If Sora is low on mana when she tries to heal someone, she'll pass out as she finishes. It takes a little time for Sora to shape her mana to be useful; if she's interrupted, she can't try again. Touch-range, on-foot only, once per combat.
